Forts have a garrison based on their level and you need 3x that many attackers for the siege to progress. If it doesn't end the green bar filling will cause a dice roll that causes an event, this can increase the %, breach the walls, damage the attackers or defenders. The % is the chance the siege ends when the green bar fills. When you are sieging a province you'll see a % and a green progress bar. The mechanic in the game roughly works like this. Constantinople is a level 3 fort (level 2 + 1 capital bonus) and coastal which all slow it down. Sieges at the time were mostly about surrounding the city and waiting for them to run out of supplies. Lastly, try to get generals with siege pips. Manpower will be wasted due to monthly attrition which can be quite high on siegers. You don't want to park for than the minimum because of attrition. If the enemy army is engaged elsewhere just use artillery, but for me if I don't know where they are, I place infantry together with artillery, so like fort level 1, I put 4 infantry and 5 artillery. Personally, I siege with only artillery regiments, unless I'm not sure where the enemy troops are. The max bonus is achieved at 5 artillery regiments per fort level. So 4 for fort level 1, 7 for fort level 2, 10 for fort level 3.Īt early game without artillery, just use infantry for siege, but once they are unlocked, artillery can help with sieges.
